Strong Roots

Not many companies can trace their roots back to an association with inventor Thomas Edison. The LE Myers Co. is such a company. This electrical contractor helped build electrical infrastructure in the U.S. and, to this day, is still amongst the largest of its kind. With over 125 years of history under its belt, LE Myers is still blazing trails in the electrical market and excelling at everything it does. We spoke with Group Vice President Brian Stern and Senior Marketing Communications Specialist Paula Frisina to find out more.

Elevating the Industry

In 1972, Les Kuzmick, Sr. created the non-profit Concrete Sawing & Drilling Association (CSDA) with the vision of bringing contractors and manufacturers together to create a forum in which the concrete cutting industry and new technologies were freely discussed. As a concrete saw blade manufacturer based in Southern California, Kuzmick believed there would be many advantages to an association where others gathered and helped each other to advance the industry, and he was right.

Serving the Industry

The history of precast concrete goes back centuries due to its quality, durability, longevity and convenience. It was first used by ancient Roman builders to construct aqueducts, buildings and tunnels – many of them still in existence. Precast concrete items such as box culverts, highway barriers, retaining walls and other products are widely used worldwide, and their benefits are proudly represented by the Pennsylvania Precast Association (PPA), a not-for-profit corporation.

COVID-19 has created new concerns and complications for mass transit. Physical distancing is challenging – if not impossible – on subways, buses, and trains. For instance, when encountering just 30 percent capacity – an estimated total of 510,000 riders each day – passengers on Toronto’s public transit would be unable to maintain a safe distance to prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to the Toronto Transit Commission. This challenge has been seen throughout countless cities over the past year.
